At Amstelhorses we breed and train KWPN sport horses.
We have a number of Elite and STER mares, which we use for breeding and so we get a few talented foals every year.
After the rearing period, we train the young horses ourselves or have them trained by professionals from our network. By doing so, we try to give our young horses a good foundation that suits the horse's talent.
After the rearing period, we assess our horses (aptitude for the sport, character, learning ability and athletic ability) and make an estimation as to what might be the best learning path for this horse and for which user purpose (sport, breeding or recreation) the horse is best suited.
We also ride some of the older sport horses ourselves, participating in clinics and competitions and in doing so we try to improve ourselves (and the horse).
We wholeheartedly align ourselves with KNHS policy, where the welfare of the horse is top priority. We try to keep our horses mentally and physically healthy and fit. The horses are herded in the pasture from May 1 to mid-November and come out of the barn several times a day in the winter. The young horses and sport horses are ridden or trained daily, well fed, medically supervised and trimmed and wormed in a timely manner.
We love our horses (and they love us😊).
On this website you can see which horses we currently own. In principle, all our horses are for sale. So if you are interested in one of our horses, or if one of your clients is interested in a (young) horse of ours, or if you have an idea for a cooperation with Amstelhorses, please contact us (call/email/app).
Our Amstelhorses adventure started about 11 years ago in 2014, with the purchase of the then 4 year old Fee (by Rhodium), who found her stable in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Soon followed the first broodmare (Enirginia, Star mare by Rhodium) and we bought 4 fillies out of beautiful mare lines, with the intention of breeding with them in due time. Two of these four purchased foals have become Elite mares and from our own bred offspring, 2 mares have already earned the Elite predicate. So we are proud owners of 4 elite mares for our sport and breeding.
By now we have bred 27 foals (state mid-2025), the oldest two of which are now 7 years old. Some foals (sometimes already young horses by now) are still in our possession, others have found a new owner. Thus Stefano ( by Labello) was sold as a 3 year old to an American buyer, but is now in the Netherlands under the saddle of a subtop rider. Schafrath ( by Japhira) has been sold to Danielle Heijkoop and also a number of other Amstelhors horses have found fine (recreational) new owners. Also some foals have already been sold and we are curious how they will develop with their new owners.
We also purchased some foals in those first years and some of them were sold as young horses. For example, the Macadamby Jaguarmail) we bought as a foal went to America as a 6-year-old sport horse, Noble Coeurby Ferdeaux) went to Sweden as a 3-year-old talented sport horse and LastOneby Gunner) went to England as a 4-year-old recreation horse. Others have found their way to new owners in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, we also have several collaborations. We are joint owners of the horses Naveed ( by Japhira) with Jeanine Krol; Darko with fam Brouwers (from Veghel, stud farm), Tovaldi ( by Gina) with Piet Kuypers. With Stal Arends ( Hans and Cora) we have started a cooperation with the mare Sjeval ( by Nadival) and in addition we are running a trial for cooperation with Nescio ( by Gina) and Anna Kordatzaki, who has ambitions to start internationally with him ( under Greek flag). So we are open to cooperation and shared ownership.
If you are interested in buying or working with us and our sport horses, please feel free to contact us.
We can offer you a nice trained horse now or in the future.
